Beginning September 3rd, the original documentaries will premiere
throughout the month, exclusively on HBO.
MIAMI, FL, August 22, 2019— This September, HBO presents a true-crime documentary month featuring two compelling cases that explore a wide range of issues including accountability, mental health, mysterious deaths and the complicated aftermath, and go beyond the crimes in question.
In July 2014, 18-year-old Conrad Roy committed suicide in his car at a parking lot in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. After investigation, police soon discovered a series of alarming text messages from his 17-year-old girlfriend, Michelle Carter, seemingly encouraging him to kill himself. Directed by Erin Lee Carr, the two-part documentary I LOVE YOU, NOW DIE explores the complicated relationship between two teenagers, a suicide and a discovery which lead to a trial raising difficult questions about technology, social media and mental health, while posing the question if one person can be held responsible for the suicide of another.

The month continues with the chilling two-part film WHO KILLED GARRETT PHILLIPS?, delving into the murder of 12-year-old Garrett Phillips, who was found dead in his home in Postdam, New York. The documentary, directed by two-time Academy Award® nominee and Emmy® winner Liz Garbus, narrates the Phillips family’s journey five years after the assassination and the subsequent trial of Clarkson University soccer coach Nick Hillary. WHO KILLED GARRETT PHILLIPS? seeks to uncover the truth behind the murder in a battle between the Phillips family, as they fight for justice, and Hillary, who fights to prove his innocence while raising five children.
