Check out the original productions in development below:
ÁREA DE SERVIÇO – Written and created by Pedro Cardoso and Graziella Moretto, the comedy approaches the relationship between different social classes with a sharp humor. Born in Brazil and raised in Portugal from a young age, Jacinto is a businessman that returns to the country in search of information about his mother, whom he never met. While staying in his aunt’s mansion, he begins spending time with the numerous employees that work there, experiencing fun and unusual situations. The director, Monique Gardenberg, also participates in the development of the production.
O AMOR SEGUNDO BUENOS AIRES – Based on the book by the same name from Brazilian journalist Fernando Scheller, who is also part of the production’s writing team, this drama finds Buenos Aires as the perfect setting for a mosaic of love stories. Hugo is a Brazilian who moves to the Argentinian capital to accompany his girlfriend, Leonor, who is going to study dance. As the romance grows cold, Hugo falls in love with the city and gets to know about other people’s stories.
O BEIJO ADOLESCENTE – The fantasy series was born from the graphic novels by Rafael Coutinho, who participates in the adaptation as a consultant. The story takes place in a world in which adults are colorless and where only young people are in color. In this reality, certain teenagers manifest a type of superpower upon having their first kiss – this is the gateway into the outlaw enterprise known as “O Beijo Adolescente” (“The Teenage Kiss”),which is subverting the adult world.
Co-productions
In addition to the original series, three documentary co-productions are at different stages of production. Already approved by the national film agency, Ancine, the production’s address the national justice system, the education of boys and the biopic of skateboarder Bob Burnquist. They are:
ODILON, RÉU DE SI MESMO – The documentary, co-produced with MYMAMA Entertainment, examines the isolation in which federal judge Odilon de Oliveira lives. He is responsible for the convictions of names that marked organized crime in Brazil, such as Fernandinho Beira-Mar and Juan Carlos Abadia. Professional success brought the judge even more severe confinement than the gangsters themselves: for the past 20 years, Odilon has lived under the armed escort of the Brazilian Federal Police.
COISA DE MENINO – Directed by Guto Barra and Tatiana Issa, who led the production and direction of FORA DO ARMÁRIO for HBO, the series shows how deep-rooted chauvinism started to be recognized today as “toxic masculinity.” With the purpose of causing reflection on such behaviors labeled as “a boy’s thing”, the production promises to question values, customs and pillars of Brazilian society, bringing up issues related to the education and upbringing of boys. Co-produced with Producing Partners.
BOBIOGRAPHY – When speaking about Bob Burnquist’s biography, the radical images that marked his more than 30 years of skateboarding come to mind. The documentary series, co-produced with Goma Filmes and Vetor Filmes, takes a look at the man behind the idol and reveals what makes the skater one-of-a-kind within the history of the sport.
With resources from Condecine (“Provisional Measure No. 2.228 - 1, from September 6th, 2001, article 39”), the co-productions will be exclusively distributed by HBO Latin America.
